Life can feel overwhelming when stress, anxiety, trauma, parenting challenges, relationship conflict, grief, or major life transitions begin to take over. You may notice that you are reacting more strongly than usual, feeling disconnected from yourself or others, struggling to manage emotions, or wondering why old patterns keep showing up in the present.

Josh works with children, youth, adults, parents, and families who are trying to better understand what is happening beneath the surface and find a healthier way forward. His work is grounded in attachment, nervous system awareness, trauma-informed practice, and practical skill-building. Josh helps clients make sense of their experiences, strengthen emotional regulation, and move toward greater connection, confidence, and meaning.

Josh May Be a Good Fit For

Josh is a good fit for clients experiencing:

  • Anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm, especially when thoughts, feelings, and body responses feel hard to manage
  • Children and youth who are struggling with big emotions, school stress, family changes, social challenges, or anxiety
  • Parents and caregivers who want to better understand their child’s behaviour, strengthen connection, and respond with more confidence
  • Trauma, attachment wounds, and difficult life experiences that continue to shape relationships, identity, and emotional responses
  • Families who feel stuck in repeated patterns and want support building healthier communication, regulation, and connection

What Counselling Is Like With Josh

In your first session, Josh will take time to understand what brought you to counselling, what has been happening recently, and what you hope will be different. He will also help you begin mapping the patterns underneath the problem, including stress responses, emotional triggers, relationship dynamics, and the ways you have already tried to cope.

Counselling with Josh is warm, practical, creative, and collaborative. Sessions may include conversation, visual tools, nervous system education, attachment-based reflection, emotional regulation strategies, sandtray, play-based approaches, geek therapy, or other experiential tools depending on your age, goals, and comfort level.

Josh’s goal is to help clients feel understood while also helping them build a clearer path forward.

Josh’s Approach to Counselling

Josh’s approach to counselling is attachment-based, trauma-informed, creative, and practical. He helps clients understand the connection between their story, their relationships, their nervous system, and the patterns that show up in everyday life.

Josh often describes counselling as creating a map. Together, you look at where you have been, what is happening now, what keeps pulling you into old responses, and what kind of future you are trying to move toward. This may involve exploring stress responses, attachment needs, protective parts of self, emotional regulation, family patterns, and the deeper meaning underneath behaviour.

Josh draws from EMDR, Brainspotting, parts work, sandtray, geek therapy, family systems, and nervous system education to help clients move beyond simply understanding the problem and toward meaningful change. His goal is to help clients feel more regulated, more connected, and more able to live from the person they are becoming — not only from the patterns they have had to survive.

Personal

Outside of counselling, Josh is a husband and father in a busy blended family. He enjoys geek culture, board games, video games, hockey, astronomy, social science research, and finding creative ways to explain mental health concepts. These interests often shape his counselling style, where stories, metaphors, visuals, and play can become meaningful tools for growth.
